Establishment and Foundation
The Faculty of
Economics and Political Science (FEPS)
at Cairo University was established by
Presidential Decree No. 1911 of 1959,
modeled after the London School of
Economics and Political Science (LSE),
which serves as its academic reference.
The Faculty was founded with the goal of
equipping Egypt and the Arab region with
highly qualified professionals in the
fields of economics, statistics, and
political science, contributing to
economic, political, and social
modernization.
Academic
instruction began in the 1960/1961
academic year, with the first class
graduating in 1963. Postgraduate
programs (Master’s and PhD) commenced in
1965/1966, and diploma programs were
introduced in 1973/1974. Since then, the
Faculty has continued to develop and
expand its academic offerings.

Teaching
programs are offered in Arabic, English,
and French across the disciplines of
economics, political science, and
statistics.

A credit-hour
system has been gradually implemented
since 2002 and fully adopted at the PhD
level in 2019.

Dual degree
international programs are offered in
cooperation with:

University of Paris 1 (Panthéon-Sorbonne)
in Economics (2010/2011) and Political
Science (2012/2013)
o
University of Hamburg in Law
and Economics (2015/2016)
o
European
Mediterranean programs for Master’s and
PhD degrees, in collaboration with
European universities since 2004

Specialized
professional programs are also offered,
such as the Gender and Development
Master’s in partnership with UN Women.

Initiatives and Activities

In 2018, the
Faculty launched its first official
journal, ELITE Magazine,
as a platform for students, faculty
members, and alumni, published in Arabic
and English.

In 2020, the
magazine expanded to be published in
three languages:
Arabic, English, and French, supporting
cultural diversity and international
academic communication.
