The Euro-Mediterranean Studies Programme launched in 2003 at Faculty of Economics and Political Science (FEPS), Cairo University, as the first interdisciplinary area-studies program in the post graduate level. The program started with a M.Sc. degree in Euro Mediterranean Studies (Master in Euro-Mediterranean) under the umbrella of the EU Tempus Programme, with a consortium combining 4 European Universities; the Institute of Political Studies (Science Po Paris), Freie Universitat Berlin, University of Amsterdam, and University of Barcelona.
In that context, FEPS has started offering the degree of Master in Euro-Mediterranean Studies (MastEuroMed) since 2004/2005. In 2007, FEPS established a Ph.D. in Euro Mediterranean Studies (DocEuroMed).
