On behalf of all members of the Department of Statistics in the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University and myself; I would like to welcome you on the website of the Department of Statistics.
Our main objective in the Department of Statistics is to teach and train our students and to stress on the importance of Statistics as one of the most essential human sciences. Researchers in various application fields find themselves in constant need of having a strong background of Statistics. Consequently, the Department gives its students the chance to enhance their understanding and to develop their knowledge of Statistics and its relationship with other fields and as a major tool for decision-making. A number of faculty members in the Department also provide training workshops and consultancy to decision-makers in various ministries, governmental institutions and private sector.
There are currently 57 faculty members working at the Department, in addition to 43 teaching assistants. The Department grants Bachelor (BSc), Masters (MSc), and Doctorate (PhD) degrees in Statistics to students in the Department. students from other Departments can minor in Statistics. Moreover, the Department serves other departments in the faculty along with the faculties of Mass-Communication, Arts and Nursing by teaching their students a variety of courses in Statistics.
Department faculty members cooperate with members of other departments and research centers of the faculty to conduct surveys, which contributes to studying and providing possible scientific solutions to problems of the Egyptian society.
The Department of Statistics gives great attention to providing summer training for its students in the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) and various banks.
The Department also holds an annual conference for Statistics and Modelling in social and human sciences in March every year for 26 year.
